A few weeks ago on a weekend, I chose to watch Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal. I like the movie, my girls are old enough to appreciate it (and had not seen it), and it’s in a foreign language without any nudity or realistic violence so I don’t even have to worry about the wee boyo. The story is simple enough on the surface that it can be explained and some of the subtitles can be read.
Turned out better than I could have hoped. I am now pestered by the wee boyo (5 yo) periodically for the last couple weeks to watch it again. It would clearly be a mistake to read overmuch into that circumstance, most (if not all) of the movie probably went right over his head, but I inordinately am pleased that he liked it.
